Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp 2017

Snook Fishing:

The snook fishing was pretty good during the 2017 Florida Fantasy Fishing camp.  We did not catch as many snook as the previous year; however, we managed to catch approximately 20-30 snook consistently every week.  Most of the fish caught were on the smaller side this year, with a few over the 29″ mark.  I recall one of the youngsters hooking into a monster snook this year, but unfortunately breaking off after a 10 minute fight.  We were able to fish in a lot of different spots throughout the summer due to the water temperature climbing every week.  One week the fish were way up in the mangroves and another week they were in deeper water on the edges of the flat.

Redfish:

Fishing for redfish on the other hand was a little more difficult.  I don’t think we caught more than 2 redfish during the first 5 weeks of camp.  Then all of the sudden we started catch 2-3 per week.  During the last week of Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp, we managed to catch some redfish that were over the 30″ mark.

Trout and more:

During the entire summer, we were able to catch good numbers of trout between 15-20″ along with lots of mangrove snappers, mackeral, jack crevalle, and lizard fish. The best fish we caught of the other list this year was a 40″ cobia.  The kids were checking out a small manatee swimming by the boat and low and behold there was a cobia swimming around it.  It took the fish about 10 minutes before it decided to eat and then a 5 minute fight.  The kids put in a group effort to land this amazing fish.

Congratulations to a successful 2017 Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp and I look forward to fishing with these youngsters again next year.  They seem to learn a lot during the week we have them and really enjoy fishing with all the captains.  Thanks to Parker Rabow for letting me be in the group.
